LUBNA KERR

Home of the Scottish actor and comedian.

About

After completing the Laughing Horse comedy course in 2013, Lubna has become a regular face on the Scottish comedy circuit. She has gigged in the UK as well putting in the occasional appearance in The States.  With humour that bases around her Asian heritage, Lubna attempts to both break down and play on the stereotypes attached to her background.

Lubna is also a trained actor and has made appearances on stage, television and film.  She was one of the stars of 'Still Game' at the Hydro in 2014 and has also made appearances in BBC1's 'Scot Squad' and 'Armchair Detectives'. In 2016 she made her big screen debut in the feature film 'Moon Dogs'.

In March 2018, Lubna's debut show, 'The Asian Ellen DeGeneres', premiered at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. The show was positively received and was later performed at the Brighton Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe and most recently the Aberdeen Comedy Festival. The show acted as a showcase for Lubna's talent for Character comedy - characters heavily-leaden with Asian stereotypes and a rich Scottish sense of humour.

More recently Lubna has been filming BBC One's successful Scottish sitcom 'Two Doors Down', in which she makes a guest appearance in the fourth season.

2019 saw Lubna design her new solo show called, “Where are You Really From?” - a question asked by many people on a daily basis. Her reply depends on the person asking her. The show has so far been performed in Brighton, Glasgow, Newcastle, Morcambe and Crieff, all as part of comedy festivals.

Lubna perfortmed the show at the Edinburgh Fringe from 03-24 August at Bar Bados. The show featured special guests each night, including none other than the lovely Tony Slattery of “Whose line is it anyway?” fame.

Lubna was awarded funded from Creative Scotland and has just completed her first play, “Tick Box”. The purpose of this funding was to allow her to write, produce and perform a semi-autobiographical, one-woman play about migration, relationships, theatre and arts. This exciting project was the perfect vehicle to showcase Lubna’s talent as a writer, actor and comedian. This project also allowed her to explore her own identity, as a Scottish, Pakistani woman, both as an actor, and within the white, male-dominated comedy circuit.

In practical terms it was to write, research and develop material, and to shape it into a play for presentation as a work-in-progress. This involved conducting workshops with women from Pakistani and Asian communities, to better understand the barriers they faced in accessing the arts. Finally, it was to present two performances, with invited audiences, to obtain critical and supportive feedback for further development of her work.
